Bells For Peace

Hi folks

Please find attached an email promoting the Manchester International Festival  'BELLS FOR PEACE' event to be held on the evening of Thursday 4th July from 7pm.

This event will be held in Cathedral Gardens in Manchester and will be a world premiere art performance by Yoko Ono, created for Manchester.

The idea is to invite choirs to lead the singing of 'Give Peace a Chance' in the original version.

If you are interested in attending this event, please let me know tonight.

Cheers

From the Organisers

Thank you so much for registering the interest of The Gallery Choir in being involved in MIF19’s Opening Event – Yoko Ono’s BELLS FOR PEACE – on Thursday 4 July. We have also really appreciated your patience while we worked with Yoko Ono and our team to make a plan for the event.

Our aim for the event is to gather as many people as possible in Cathedral Gardens to ring bells and sing for peace – using Manchester’s love of music to send our message. Rather than work with a smaller number of people, we wanted to find an accessible way to welcome as many choirs and choruses as possible to be part of the 8,000-strong crowd in Cathedral Gardens.

We wanted to share with you a very special – and top secret – way that you can be involved. At a designated moment during BELLS FOR PEACE everyone will be invited to sing Give Peace a Chance (1969) and we would love you and your choir to be there, ready to lead your fellow Mancunians in a mass singing moment from amongst the crowd. The only things we would ask of you is that you learn the original arrangement, come dressed in casual clothes (no uniform or choir branded t-shirts) in order to maintain the element of surprise and to bring a bell.

If you are interested and able to join us, please could you RSVP to this email by Monday 3 June and I will follow up with some further details.

I really hope you are able to take part and look forward to hearing from you,

Sarah
